Aretha sings "America" at Obama Inauguration

It was an inspired choice to have "The Queen of Soul" sing America's oldest anthem, "America" (also known as "My Country 'Tis of thee") at the Inauguration of Barack Obama today.

My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring!

Our father's God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King.

  2. After singing "America", I think Aretha should have pumped the place up with "R-e-s-p-e-c-t"!!!!
    It would have been particularly appropriate for this new President.
